And just like that, it’s Stitch-U-Ation Sunday again! Seriously... where has June gone? Has anyone seen her? I swear this month packed its bags and disappeared overnight.
With how quickly this week flew by, I haven't quite finished my Bento Pouch yet... but I PROMISE she'll be done by next week. In fact, if she's not, you all have my permission to call me out. 😂
The craziest part? All I have left to do is attach the cording on two sides. That's it. Somehow the final steps of a project always take me the longest, especially when hand stitching is involved. The finish line is right there, and yet somehow it feels miles away!
I wish I had more progress photos to share this week, but here's a little peek at the fabrics. And mark my words—by this time next Sunday, she'll be completely finished and ready for her debut!
As much as I love stitching, I may or may not be guilty of the occasional nighttime doom-scroll. But this week, my scrolling actually paid off because I stumbled across an absolute gem that I just have to share.
The moment I saw her tip, I practically sprinted to my stash to try it for myself. Seriously, I wasn't even halfway through the video before I was digging through my supplies.
Let me introduce you to Golly Peeters. She's a lifelong crafter, teacher, and one of those rare creators who shares genuinely useful techniques instead of the same recycled advice we've all seen a hundred times. Now for the really good part—her method for storing perle skeins.
Instead of tossing them into a drawer or thread bag, she plaits each skein and stores them on a ring with the tag. Not only is it incredibly practical, but it also looks so satisfying and organized. (For my North American friends, "plait" is just the British word for braid!)
You should have seen my thread drawer before this little makeover—it was equal parts crafting supplies and chaos. Finding a specific color felt like an archaeological dig.
After seeing her system, I immediately refreshed part of my stash, and I'm honestly obsessed with the result. Below is a peek at some of my newly braided threads, including Silk & Ivory, Planet Earth Silk, and DMC Perle, all neatly attached to a ring and ready for my next project.
Functional and pretty?
That's a crafting win in my book.
While trying to divide my attention between stitching, painting orders, and everything else on my to-do list, I managed to make some really good progress on the Bookstack this week. If all goes according to plan, I'm predicting a lowercase finish by next Sunday's update.
I'm especially loving how the ombré turned out. The color transition is even better than I imagined, and I think once the piece is steamed, blocked, and ready for a capital-F Finishing, the effect is really going to shine.
The weather here in Jersey has also been absolutely gorgeous, so I've been taking every opportunity to stitch outside. There's just something about working on a project with a cup of tea, a little sunshine, and a summer breeze that makes every stitch feel a bit more enjoyable.
