Hi Stitch Friends!! Welcome to the very first Stitch-U-Ation Sunday!
I've been wanting to start a space where I can share a little more of what's happening behind the scenes at Let's Stitch Studio—the projects currently taking over my stitching bag, what's happening in the studio, new canvas ideas, random life updates, and all the other things that don't always make it onto Instagram.
Fun fact: this isn't my first blogging adventure. I was a Tumblr girlie through and through back in the day, and I even had a lifestyle blog in college many (many) years ago. So in a way, this feels like coming home.
Now that we've gotten the introductions out of the way, let's jump right into this week's stitch-u-ation...
I lost thread chicken.
I'm actually writing this while impatiently watching the clock for Michaels to open. Somewhere between feeling extremely confident and refusing to buy an extra skein "just in case," I ran out of black DMC 310 with exactly two rows left to stitch on my Bento Box. And tragically, none in my stash. Not an ort to be found.
For anyone new here, a little background: I gave myself a self-imposed deadline of July 20th to finish both my Bento Box and Bookstack canvases as Kindle cases. I'll be at the Parsippany Book & Plant Swap on July 25th selling canvases, and I really wanted these finished pieces on display. Naturally, that means I waited until the very end of one project to run out of thread.
At 9:00 a.m. sharp, I'll be breaking down those Michaels sliding doors. Once those final two rows are stitched, the Bento Box can officially move into the capital-F Finishing pile, and I'll be diving headfirst into the Bookstack. Hopefully by next Stitch-U-Ation Sunday, I'll have at least a lowercase-f finishing update to share.
One of my favorite parts of these projects has been playing around with specialty threads. My current obsession? Starburst in Pink Cow. I seriously cannot get over this color. It has the perfect mix of sparkle and personality, and I already know it's going to shine in the skyline and sunset ombré sections of my Bookstack canvas. To make matters even more dangerous for my stash, I just had a new Melissa Shirley canvas arrive that is absolutely begging for this thread.
When I ordered threads for both the Bento Box and Bookstack, I tried to be intentional about where I splurged on specialty. My goal was to highlight the colors and areas that would have the biggest impact while still keeping the projects fun to stitch.
That said, no matter how many specialty threads I collect, DMC will always be the backbone of my stitching. Honestly, where would the needlepoint industry be without DMC? It's reliable, accessible, and somehow always manages to have exactly the color I need. Silk & Ivory is right up there with it, though. If someone told me I could only stitch with two thread lines for the rest of my life, I'd choose DMC and Silk & Ivory without hesitation.
I said what I said.
Purse Project Update: Honestly... there isn't much of one.
This project has been sitting in timeout since last Tuesday while I've focused on finishing my Kindle case deadline pieces. The good news is that it's on 13 mesh, so once I pick it back up, the Pointer should stitch up pretty quickly and the background won't take long at all.
I've realized I'm such a seasonal stitcher. Summer is hands-down my favorite season, and I'm soaking up every second of it.
Speaking of summer, I recently got one of those tanning pools and... GAME CHANGER. If you're also someone who loves laying out in the sunshine, I highly recommend looking into one. As most of New Jersey knows by now, we're hosting World Cup games, and I have absolutely zero interest in dealing with the traffic and crowds on those days. So instead, you'll find me floating in my tanning pool, stitching in hand, pretending I'm on vacation. If you're curious, just Google "tanning pool"—there are tons of options out there.
Okay, back to stitching. My goal is to have the Pointer round finished by Thursday so I can film a new tutorial showing how I attach cording to the finished cookies. Stay tuned—that video should be coming very soon!

By the time you're reading this, hopefully I've successfully secured my black DMC, finished those last two rows, and officially moved the Bento Box into the finishing pile. If not, feel free to remind me that thread chicken is a dangerous game, and I should know better by now.
This coming week is all about checking off those Kindle case deadlines, getting some progress on the Pointer round, and soaking up every bit of summer I can. Between stitching, painting canvases, and sneaking in some tanning pool time, it's shaping up to be a good one.
